Okay. So I agree with this. But. Can we also acknowledge that people do grow? That sometimes it takes a personal situation/major life event to make that change happen? And that Jay Z is not solely responsible for why this is “a world where…” It was that world before he ever spoke a word. He upheld that world, yes, but he didn’t create it. And if he is evolving and speaking against it now, while taking responsibility for his part in previously upholding it, I don’t see how it does women any benefit to keep poking at him. I also would like to know why these critiques are so much harsher against men of color than against white men. Why is it that Jay Z will, seemingly, never be able to be sufficiently remorseful but white men are barely critiqued for the way they talk about/to women, and women of color specifically, at all?

i really need for Professional Black Mouthpieces (TM) to stop taking shot at hip hop because they know it’ll get them on the air. esp if they don’t listen to it. ESP if they don’t listen to anything that was made after 2002.
and also? way to per usual vastly underestimate hip hop listeners’ ability to have nuance. jesus, Jay Z fans are probably not going to refer to his daughter as a little bitch. at least, not anyone that matters. because that’s disrespectful and stupid. it doesn’t work like that. if it did, there would be way more rap songs calling other people’s daughter’s bitches, b/c Jay Z isn’t the first rapper to have a daughter. fyi.
and all this concern trolling for Blue Ivy really needs to stop. i understand the internet wasn’t what it is now when Eminem first came out, but i have yet to see ANY sort of similar concern trolling for Hallie, or any similar suggestions that the music he makes somehow makes him unable to be a suitable parent, and he *still* raps about murdering women. frequently. still have yet to read a blog post giving *her* advice about how to navigate this treacherous, sexist world.
(via so-treu) Ya heard? I am over this shit . You honestly don’t like Jay-z cool. I know and have read folks who don’t but this transparent use of somebody who still doesn’t know where their own FEET are to get at him or the problem of hip hop needs to damn stop. Or wait its perfect because just like the hip hop you despise you think women’s bodies are game board pieces (via blackamazon)
THOUGHTS?!
I don’t remember this level of critique coming out against the Beastie Boys when they started breeding. Just sayin…
